Saxifraga (Saxifraga Arendsii Purple Robe) - This outstanding ground cover plant is readily established by Saxifraga seeds, and it creates a dense mat of evergreen foliage and carmine red colored blooms. Also, known as Mossy Saxifrage or Purple Robe ground cover, Saxifrages grow well in containers, beds, rock gardens, and anywhere a low-growing, spreading ground cover plant is desired. Mossy Saxifrage plants prefer well-drained soil and full sun to partial shade conditions. Purple Robe Saxifraga does not do well in the hot humid areas. It is both deer and rabbit resistant.

Growing Saxifraga From Seed: Sow Saxifraga seeds directly outdoors in either the fall or the spring. Prepare soil by loosening the top 1 - 2 inches and weeding. Saxifraga plants prefer well-draining soil, so amend soil if needed, adding sand or fine grit. The soil pH preferably should be mildly alkaline. Sow the Purple Robe ground cover seeds on the surface, lightly walking over the seeds to help make good contact with the soil. Keep the ground cover seeds constantly moist until germination occurs. The Saxifraga plant likes sun, but as the Saxifraga Arendsii seed is germinating and establishing protect from direct sunlight.
