Old Spice Sweet Pea (Lathyrus Odoratus Old Spice Henry Eckford) - A beautiful red sweet pea, Henry Eckford's strongly-scented flowers appear 4 to a stem. Their color is a bold orange red, shading to salmon. Blooms shine brightest when plants receive afternoon shade. These sweet pea seeds produce stunning 6 - 8 foot tall vines. Henry Eckford sweet pea is an heirloom variety introduced in 1904. He is the most accomplished sweet pea breeder the world has yet known. It is a gorgeous addition to any garden, and it produces masses of highly scented blooms from summer until frost.
For best germination, Sweet Pea seeds need to be scarified before sowing. Nicking the seed with a nail clipper breaks the outer coat so they can absorb water immediately. By doing this a larger percentage of the seeds will germinate and they will sprout a few days earlier. After nicking the seed, soak the Sweet Peas seeds over night in tepid water. Do this the night before sowing the flower seeds directly outside.
