Larkspur (Delphinium Consolida Blue Spire) - Create a wonderful backdrop for the flower garden by sowing Larkspur seeds. Larkspur Blue Spire has many rich, dark blue blooms that are 1 inch across and medium green foliage making these tall, stately flowers a must have for the garden. Larkspur Delphinium Consolida are lovely against a fence or wall with their tall flower spikes. Larkspurs make a wonderful cut flower. Cut when 1/3 of the delicate flowers on the spike are opened. Their vase life is 6 - 8 days, and they dry nicely for dried arrangements as well.
To aid in the germination of Larkspur seeds, place the flower seeds on a damp paper towel, seal the towel and seeds in a ziploc bag and place in the refrigerator for 1 - 2 weeks. After removing the flower seeds from the refrigerator, directly sow the Larkspur seeds outdoors in prepared soil, keeping the seeds moist until germination. Larkspur flower seeds can also be sown indoors. Transplanting Larkspur seedlings outside can take place after 8 weeks of growth. After blooms are spent, cut back hard to encourage a second bloom later in the season. The flower seeds and Larkspur plants are poisonous so do not consume.
