Typically the flowers will remain open all evening and night until morning and on cloudy days, they may not close at all. Mirabilis Jalapa white is a bushy tender perennial that can be grown from either a tuber or flowers seeds. In areas that get heavy frost, Four O'Clock plants will only survive as an annual.

How to grow
How To Grow Four O'Clock From Seed: Four O'Clocks can be grown very easily from flowers seeds, but need to be provided with warm soil in order to germinate. They will germinate best between 65 - 75F in just 10 - 14 days if the flower seeds are kept moist.
If directly planting outdoors, Four O'Clock seeds should be planted in late spring or early summer. In cooler areas with a late spring, start the Mirabilis Jalapa seeds indoors about eight weeks before the final frost date for transplanting outdoors at a later time.
