Dianthus (Dianthus Barbatus Albus) - This white Sweet William Dianthus is a wonder of a plant, with tiny 3/4 inch florets of glistening white that crowd one another on big 4 to 7 inch bloom clusters. Sow Dianthus seeds and have blooms in just 3 months! Sow the flower seeds in early spring after frost season is over for late spring blooms.
Dianthus Barbatus white is a heavy and dependable bloomer, with extra-sturdy stems that refuse to collapse under the weight of their tremendous bounty. Expect them to last a long time in the garden even over the hot summer months. If you want to cut these beautiful flower clusters they will last up to 2 weeks in the vase!
Sow Sweet Williams seeds indoors 4 - 6 weeks before last frost. Use sterile starter mix, and sow the flower seeds on top, covering lightly with soil. Transplant Dianthus seedlings outdoors after frost season has passed. For directly sowing outdoors, wait until danger of frost is over, and directly sow the flower seeds into prepared beds. Lightly cover 1/16 inch and keep seeds moist.
