Cosmos (Cosmos Sulphureus Red) - Easily grown from flower seed, these annuals produce masses of daisy-like flowers and graceful feathery foliage which makes them a wonderful addition to the flower bed or garden. Not only is it a pleasure to look at these glorious red Cosmos flowers, but they are also very attractive to birds and butterflies as well. This annual is also known as Klondike Cosmos, and grows best in full sun, moderately fertile soil and moderate amounts of water, but will survive with very little water as they are quite resistant to drought.
The Sulfur Cosmos flower is excellent for cutting with a vase life of 7 - 10 days. Cut the blooms in the early morning hours, and select stems with flowers that have petals just beginning to unfold. The bloom will fully open once in the vase. Remove the leaves below the water line, and enjoy a beautiful bouquet!
Directly sow Cosmos seeds into prepared soil after danger of frost has passed. The flower seeds can be scattered and lightly raked under at a depth of 1/16 inch. Keep the flower seeds moist until germination, and blooms will appear in about 10 weeks.
